POSITION SUMMARY:The Marketing Content Specialist role is responsible for writing, editing, as well as enhancing content for external communications channels, primarily the company's website. This role requires strong attention to detail, originality, and a passion for producing the best content for the end user. The Marketing Content Specialist works collaboratively with colleagues throughout Marketing and other departments to ensure content is accurate and consistent with brand guidelines and company strategy. A critical role for the organization, this position will directly support increasing brand awareness, driving traffic to the website, and improving our online search ranking.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Marketing Content Specialist may be responsible for or support the following:
  • Write, edit, and enhance detailed product descriptions, enter product specifications, as well as create category and subcategory copy for oceanstatejoblot.com using sample products and online research.
  • Develop and maintain website content including, but not limited to, content related to the Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) charitable foundation, sustainability initiatives, career opportunities, community events, promotions, history, as well as public relations activities.
  • Use creativity, keen attention to detail, as well as passion for grammar and spelling to write compelling and accurate copy that is consistent with company brand style guidelines.
  • Capture the unique voice of the OSJL brand. Connect with a diverse range of customers.
  • Conduct independent research. Collaborate with a cross-functional team to source required information for content development.
  • Stay current on competitive websites to continually improve upon OSJL's content.
  • Closely partner with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) analyst role(s) to understand insights that drive consumer engagement. Apply SEO principles to maximize the reach to target audiences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to follow existing, and develop new, copywriting standards.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to monitor website traffic and engagement. Adjust content strategy accordingly.
  • Adapt to changing priorities. Meet and exceed deadlines with minimal oversight.
  • Cross-train to provide coverage for other members of the Communications and Public Relations teams when needed.
  • Effectively utilize virtual means to communicate efficiently and work independently under remote conditions as applicable.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    • Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field is required.
    • A minimum of 2-3 years of professional copywriting and editing experience is strongly preferred.
    • Previous experience creating website and/or ecommerce copy is preferred.
    • Proficient in Google platforms (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Analytics).ATTRIBUTES:

        WORK ENVIRONMENT:
        • Works primarily in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety and health hazard

        • Works in an office environment sitting at a desk, table, or computer workstation for extended periods of time. Frequently uses near vision for reading and computer tasks.
