to better serve their needs.The RoleThe Director of Facilities is
responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management
of all physical facilities. This includes overseeing the
maintenance, safety, and security of the organization's buildings
and grounds, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations, and
managing capital projects. The Director will lead a small team of
facility professionals and work closely with senior leadership to
support the mission of providing high-quality care in a safe
working environment.Essential Work Duties and Responsibilities
- Facility Management
- Oversee the daily operations of all facilities, ensuring they
are maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness and
functionality.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure
the longevity and reliability of building systems, including HVAC,
plumbing, electrical and life safety systems.
- Manage contracts and relationships with external vendors for
services such as janitorial, landscaping, security and
maintenance.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all facilities comply with federal, state, and local
regulations including those specific to healthcare settings (e.g.,
OSHA, ADA, Joint Commission standards).
- Lead the organization's efforts in maintaining a safe
environment for all individuals, staff and visitors, including the
development and enforcement of safety policies and emergency
preparedness plans.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify
and mitigate potential hazards.
- Capital Projects
- Plan, budget, and oversee construction and renovation projects,
ensuring they are completed on time, within budget and to
specifications.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors to
ensure the design and construction of facilities meet the needs of
the organization and comply with healthcare regulations.
- Provide leadership in the strategic planning of facility
expansion, ensuring alignment with the organization's mission and
long-term goals.
- Leadership and Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of facilities management
professionals, fostering a culture of excellence, teamwork, and
continuous improvement.
- Prepare and manage the facilities department budget, ensuring
cost-effective use of resources.
- Provide regular reports to senior leadership on the status of
facilities, including maintenance issues, capital projects, and
compliance matters.
- Sustainability Initiatives
- Promote and implement sustainable practices in facility
management, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and
green building practices.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through energy
efficiency and other sustainability initiatives.Education,
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Engineering,
Business Administration, or related field. Master's degree
preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in facilities management, with at least
5 years in a leadership role, preferably in a healthcare or
non-profit environment.
- Strong knowledge of building systems, construction management,
and regulatory requirements in healthcare settings.
- Proven experience managing capital projects and working with
architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the
ability to inspire and develop staff.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making
skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the
ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of the
organization.
- Certification in Facilities Management (CFM), healthcare
Facility Management (CHFM), or a related credential is a
plus.Working ConditionsWorks in an office environment and is
frequently required to move throughout the organization's various
facilities to oversee operations, inspections, and projects.
Exposure to building sites, mechanical rooms, and other non-office
areas, sometimes requiring work in varying conditions, such as
temperature changes, noise, and outdoor environments. The position
demands the ability to respond to emergencies, which may require
work outside of standard business hours, including nights and
weekends.Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit for extended periods of
time.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including
exposure to loud noises, fumes, and temperature variations.Benefits
