Job Description Job Description Position Title : Foreperson – Production Department: Production Reports To: Department Head - Production FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Compensation: $22 – 26.50 / hour Position Summary: The Foreperson – Production is responsible for overseeing the planting of bareroot stock, quarts, plugs, and upshifted plants into a variety of container types. This role reports to the Container Production Department Head, and works closely with other container forepersons, assistant forepersons, crew leaders, and nursery workers in the department to achieve production goals while maintaining Bailey quality standards and safety compliance What we offer : Competitive pay and comprehensive benefits (health, dental, vision, life insurance) 401(k) matching Paid time off and paid holidays Employee assistance program Monday-Friday schedule Employee discount Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work alongside the department head to develop and implement effective strategies for achieving departmental objectives. Supervise multiple crews to ensure all potting tasks are completed successfully and on schedule. Manage every aspect of the potting process, from preparation to planting and upshifting containers. Ensure the accurate and high-quality planting of bareroot shrubs, quarts, plugs, and upshifted containers. Prepare liners and materials prior to planting to maintain efficiency and quality standards. Maintain meticulous records of all materials planted, ensuring accurate data entry and tracking. Monitor workplace activities to maximize productivity and optimize workforce performance. Continuously seek out and implement improvements to the planting process. Anticipate future needs and proactively plan for supplies, plant materials, and other resources. Evaluate the performance of crew members, monitor attendance, manage timecards, and address personnel matters including promotions and disciplinary actions. Uphold and enforce strict safety standards at all times. Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals. Required Qualifications: Experience leading and directing individuals or teams to achieve common goals. Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse team. Demonstrated ability to contribute as a collaborative team member. Experience using computer systems and software programs such as Microsoft office suite (Excel, word, etc) Preferred Qualifications : Bilingual in Spanish and English, or willingness and aptitude to learn. Associates Degree in horticulture or a related field. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The employee must regularly lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and wind. PPE may be required in certain work areas.
