The Washington Trust Company is seeking an experienced Mortgage
Underwriter to add to our team of dedicated underwriting
professionals. The Underwriter works with a specific group of Loan
Officers and becomes a valuable team member to ensure that all
residential mortgages are underwritten with the highest standards
of compliance to all regulations and investor requirements.
This position is located in Warwick, RI.
Issue loan decisions and clear loan conditions in a timely
Analyze financial and collateral documentation provided to ensure a
strong, sound, and compliant underwriting decision is made.
Responsible for reviewing appraisals of residential mortgages for
logic, technical requirements and reasonableness of conclusions in
accordance with prudent lending guidelines including secondary
market Government-sponsored Enterprise (GSE), Government Loans and
Pro-actively suggest program alternatives for borrowers who do not
qualify for terms initially submitted.
Maintain a constant working knowledge of all Product
Make appropriate lending decisions to approve, decline,
counteroffer, or suspend applications as necessary, adhering to
Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to
determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet

Utilize in-depth knowledge of all legal, compliance, regulatory,
and internal requirements for all product offerings.

manner in all written and verbal communications.
Will work closely with Loan Processors to ensure all required
documentation is obtained, reviewed and acceptable.
Knowledge, Skills, Education
3 years minimum experience in mortgage industry underwriting
Thorough understanding of lending programs including Portfolio,
Jumbos, FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, Construction, MHFA.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable Federal and State
Regulations (e.g. TRID, ECOA).
Encompass LOS experience preferred but not required.
Ability to effectively manage pipeline of 30-50 loan files per
Demonstrate efficient, detailed-oriented, and organized work
approach. High sensitivity and responsiveness to deadlines.
Effective in a results-driven environment.
Ability to work independently while in a team environment, with
limited supervision and be able to respond effectively to competing

Intermediate knowledge of MS Office with a particular strength in

High school diploma or GED; college degree in business related
